eBay Cuts 1,000 Jobs in Second Major Layoff of 2026

eBay announced it will eliminate roughly 1,000 positions — 9% of its workforce — its second round of significant job cuts this year, as it realigns resources after acquiring the clothing-resale platform Depop.

EBay told staff on October 21, 2026 that it would cut approximately 1,000 jobs, representing about 9% of its roughly 12,300-strong global workforce. The announcement is the company's second major round of redundancies in 2026: in February it eliminated around 800 positions, equivalent to 6% of the workforce at that time. The company said the reductions were necessary 'to ensure we continue to operate from a position of strength by aligning our teams and resources with our top strategic priorities', and committed to supporting departing employees 'with care and respect'. The layoffs come shortly after eBay completed its $1.2 billion acquisition of Depop, a fashion-resale platform popular with younger shoppers, in July 2026. The company said it intends to concentrate investment on growth areas including recommerce and AI-powered listing tools. EBay had returned to revenue growth in 2025 after years of stagnation, but still faces intensifying competition from Amazon, Vinted and Chinese cross-border platforms. Earlier in 2026, eBay also rejected an unsolicited $55.5 billion takeover bid from GameStop, whose chairman Ryan Cohen had publicly called the company 'poorly managed and not innovative enough'.
