Cancun Tops US Thanksgiving 2026 International Travel Rankings

Travel insurer Allianz Partners analysed just over 145,000 insured trip itineraries for Thanksgiving 2026 — covering departures between 21 and 26 November with returns by 1 December — and found Cancun, Mexico, at the top of US travellers' international destination choices for the holiday. San José del Cabo ranked second, followed by Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic third, London fourth, and Montego Bay, Jamaica, sixth. Eight of the ten international destinations in the ranking were in Mexico or the Caribbean. A separate survey of 1,524 Allianz Travel Insurance customers found that 67% cited visiting family or friends as their main reason for travelling, while 32.4% said they were planning to add holiday days to their trip or were considering doing so. The figures reflect Allianz's own insured-booking pool and offer a view of travel choices within that sample; the insurer notes the data does not represent every American planning to travel abroad for Thanksgiving.
