Michelin Guide Expands to Phu Quoc, Making Vietnam's Island Resort Its Fourth Destination
Michelin has announced it will extend its restaurant guide to Phu Quoc, the Vietnamese island known for its fish sauce and pepper, making it the fourth Vietnamese city in the guide ahead of a full selection to be unveiled in mid-2027.
Michelin announced in early October 2026 that it will expand its restaurant guide to Phu Quoc, Vietnam, making the tropical island the fourth Vietnamese destination covered by the guide after Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (added in 2023) and Da Nang (added in 2024). The full Vietnam 2027 restaurant selection, which will include Phu Quoc listings, is scheduled to be revealed in mid-2027, timed to coincide with Phu Quoc hosting the APEC summit. Michelin describes Phu Quoc as possessing a distinctive culinary identity rooted in its maritime geography, with exceptional local products including world-renowned fish sauce and aromatic black pepper, as well as a dual dining culture combining traditional fishing-village cuisine with an evolving fine-dining scene shaped by international culinary talent. The expansion is supported by Sun Group, a major Vietnamese hospitality and resort developer with significant infrastructure on the island. VietnamPlus reported strong speculation about which island restaurants could earn Phu Quoc's first Michelin star, with seafood-focused establishments and modern Vietnamese fusion restaurants considered frontrunners. The announcement reinforces Vietnam's growing stature as a culinary tourism destination in Southeast Asia.
