Declan O'Rourke Releases Eighth Studio Album 'Oceanic' Recorded in Sydney

Irish singer-songwriter Declan O'Rourke has released his eighth studio album, Oceanic, recorded in Sydney with Midnight Oil's Jim Moginie, and will support it with live dates across Ireland in October and November.

Acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter Declan O'Rourke has released his eighth studio album, Oceanic, together with its lead single, Miracles and Mirages. A run of live dates across Ireland in October and November will follow.

The album was recorded in Sydney with longtime friend and collaborator Jim Moginie of Midnight Oil. The choice of location carries deep personal meaning: at just 19, it was in Australia that O'Rourke first committed songs to tape. His celebrated debut album, Since Kyabram, released in 2004, even borrowed its name from the South Australian town of Kyabram.

The lead single has its own long history. O'Rourke and Moginie originally wrote Miracles and Mirages the day after they first met, 20 years ago at the Blue Mountains Festival in New South Wales. The song was rediscovered ahead of the Oceanic sessions and the pair returned to it immediately. It grew out of a lighthearted conversation about the pitfalls of the modern healing world — acknowledging the value of natural medicine while insisting that inner work remains a lifelong commitment.

O'Rourke describes Oceanic as a collection of dreams that surfaced from his deepest layers, shaped by a life lived across two continents. The record follows Arrivals (2021), which was produced by Paul Weller, and marks a further step in O'Rourke's artistic evolution.
