Lima will host the 2026 edition of The 50 Best Restaurants awards on November 4, marking the first time the global ceremony has taken place in South America. Maido, the reigning No. 1, will not defend its title and instead joins the permanent Best of the Best group alongside fellow Lima restaurant Central.
Lima is set to make history on November 4, 2026, as the first South American city to host the global ceremony for The 50 Best Restaurants — the awards formerly known as The World's 50 Best Restaurants, which were renamed in September under the organization's new umbrella brand, The 50.
The Peruvian capital has earned its place at the center of the culinary world. Central claimed the No. 1 spot in 2023, and Maido followed in 2025. The two restaurants take very different approaches: Central explores Peru's ecosystems and elevations, while chef Mitsuharu Tsumura's Maido draws on Japanese-Peruvian Nikkei traditions. Having won at last year's ceremony in Turin, Maido is now ineligible for future rankings and will be inducted into the Best of the Best group at the Lima event. Central is already part of that group.
The week's program extends beyond the main ranking reveal. The 50 Best Talks take place on November 3, and a Chefs' Feast will celebrate local cooking. The headline attraction for diners is the Signature Sessions — ticketed collaborative meals pairing chefs from ranked restaurants with Lima-based teams. Lima's broader restaurant scene also offers plenty to explore, with Kjolle, Mérito, and Mayta all appearing in the 2025 top 50.
Lima previously hosted the Latin American restaurant awards in 2013. This year's global edition is organized in partnership with PromPerú and sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna. The event replaces Abu Dhabi, which had previously been announced as host. The extended 51–100 list and individual awards will be revealed before the November 4 ceremony, which will stream live on the organization's YouTube channel.
