Meta Acquires AI Coding Startup Conductor to Accelerate Its Agent Platform

Meta has bought Conductor, a startup that lets software engineers deploy teams of AI coding agents working in parallel, as the company races to expand its AI developer tooling.
Meta has acquired Conductor, a startup founded in 2024 whose platform lets software engineers run multiple AI agents simultaneously across separate, compartmentalized parts of a project. The deal was first reported by Axios and confirmed by Meta to TechCrunch, though the company wouldn't comment further or provide additional details about the deal.
Conductor's founder and CEO, Charlie Holtz, announced the news on Wednesday, writing on the company's blog that Conductor was joining Meta and teasing "something new" for customers by early next year. On X, Holtz said he was eager to work with Alexandr Wang, Meta's chief AI officer, and Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta's Superintelligence Labs.
The platform can be deployed in the cloud, locally, or through a user's phone. Rather than building its own models, Conductor draws on agents from major AI labs including Anthropic and OpenAI. Holtz said the core product will keep working as before until early next year.
The acquisition comes as Meta has pushed aggressively to close the gap in AI services. The company launched Muse Code, its own coding agent, in August. Separately, Meta's Muse agents platform has seen strong growth, recently passing ten million users.
For current Conductor users, the transition carries one significant change: the company's cloud service will shut down on November 20, after which Conductor will begin deleting user cloud data.
