RSF drone strike on Kordofan University dormitory kills five Sudanese students
A paramilitary Rapid Support Forces drone hit a student dormitory of the University of Kordofan in El Obeid, killing five and wounding dozens as Sudan's war grinds on.
A Rapid Support Forces drone strike hit a student dormitory of the University of Kordofan in El Obeid, capital of Sudan's North Kordofan state, on 1 October 2026, killing five people and wounding at least 47 others, according to the Sudan Doctors Network. Local medics said the munitions landed on student housing in a densely populated residential area; several of the wounded were in critical condition. The Doctors Network condemned the attack as a serious violation of international humanitarian law and warned of a 'worrying escalation' in RSF targeting of civilian and public-service facilities. Kordofan University reported heavy structural damage. The RSF did not immediately comment; the paramilitary routinely denies attacking civilians, despite repeated accusations by Sudanese authorities, UN agencies and international human-rights groups. The strike came as fighting between the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces continued to displace millions and push Sudan deeper into what the UN calls the world's largest humanitarian crisis, with famine conditions already declared in parts of Darfur and the Kordofans.
