Spiritland Listening Bar Opens at the Barbican
Spiritland, one of London's pioneering listening bars, launched a new 100-cover outpost at Level 2 of the Barbican Centre on 20 October, with a bespoke audiophile soundsystem and a European-Japanese food menu.
Spiritland, the listening bar that helped define London's high-fidelity drinking culture, opened a second permanent London venue at Level 2 of the Barbican Centre on Silk Street, EC2Y 8DS on Monday 20 October 2026. The 100-cover space offers seasonally changing cocktails, beers and wines alongside food with a European and Japanese-influenced menu and weekend brunch. Executive chef Matt Cranston, previously executive chef at Lardo in Hackney and head chef at The Cow in Notting Hill, leads the kitchen. The venue is built around a bespoke Living Voice soundsystem — two Living Voice R252 loudspeakers and high-end associated audio equipment — engineered to Spiritland's exacting audiophile standards. Each day at 5pm a full album is played uninterrupted, with a programme ranging from Bach and Steve Reich to Beck and Suzanne Ciani. Regular supper clubs and a curated daily music programme are planned. Spiritland's original site is near King's Cross. The Barbican opening had been one of the most anticipated autumn hospitality launches in London and attracted strong reader interest on Time Out London, where the announcement article was published on 7 October.
