Westkreuz Construction Disrupts Five Berlin S-Bahn Lines Including Airport Link
Maintenance work at Westkreuz station is causing cancellations and reduced frequencies on five S-Bahn lines — S3, S5, S7, S9, and S75 — leaving commuters and airport travellers without a through-service across the western junction.
From 22 October 2026, construction work at Westkreuz junction in Berlin's west is disrupting five of the city's busiest S-Bahn lines: S3, S5, S7, S9, and S75. The S9 — which normally connects Berlin Brandenburg Airport to the city centre — runs only between BER and Charlottenburg and separately between Westkreuz and Spandau, leaving a gap across the affected junction. The S3 operates solely between Erkner and Charlottenburg; the S5 runs between Strausberg Nord and Ostbahnhof; and the S75 serves only Wartenberg to Lichtenberg. The S7 travels its full Ahrensfelde–Potsdam Hauptbahnhof corridor but drops to a 20-minute interval between Charlottenburg and Grunewald. Normal 10-minute headways cannot be maintained on the S3 and S5. Passengers are advised to plan significantly longer journeys and consult the S-Bahn's online journey planner for rail-replacement and alternative routing options during the works period.
