Musk tops US midterm donors with $366 million to Republican campaigns
Campaign-finance filings show Elon Musk has given $366 million to Republican committees and super PACs for the 2026 US midterms, making him the largest known donor of the cycle.
Fresh US campaign-finance filings released around 13-15 October 2026 show that Elon Musk, the world's richest person, has become the largest known donor of the 2026 midterm cycle, giving a combined $366 million to Republican committees and super PACs trying to keep control of Congress. According to the reports, $158 million went to the Senate Leadership Fund, aligned with Senate Majority Leader John Thune, and $20 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund that supports House Republicans. Musk's own America PAC received $76 million to back Republican candidates in seven battleground states and nearly three dozen House races. Of the $366 million total, $276 million was donated since July alone. The disclosures sharpen a debate in the final weeks before the 3 November vote about the influence of a single billionaire on American democracy, with Democrats citing the sums as evidence of 'oligarchic politics' and Republicans arguing that unions and liberal donors are also pouring in record amounts. North Carolina's in-person early voting period for the midterms opens on 15 October, lending the news extra weight.
