The Pride musical, based on the true story of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners during the 1984 miners' strike, will begin performances at London's Bridge Theatre on 12 November 2026 after sold-out runs in Cardiff and at the National Theatre.
Pride, a musical based on the true story of a group of friends who formed Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) during the 1984 miners' strike and rallied behind a small village in South Wales, is set to transfer to London's Bridge Theatre, with performances beginning 12 November 2026. The show follows sold-out seasons at Cardiff's Sherman Theatre and London's National Theatre.
Written by Stephen Beresford and directed by Matthew Warchus, the production carries an original score by Christopher Nightingale, Josh Cohen and DJ Walde, drawing on protest anthems, pop, rock, disco and the Welsh choral tradition. Set and costume design is by Bunny Christie, choreography by Lizzi Gee, lighting by Hugh Vanstone and sound by Bobby Aitken.
The Bridge Theatre cast includes Samuel Barnett as Jonathan, Matthew Durkan as Mike, Gillian Elisa as Gwen, Chris Jenkins as Gethin, Darren Lawrence as Cliff, Kirsty Malpass as Hefina, Madeleine Morgan, Sarah Pugh as Siân, Caroline Sheen as Maureen, Courtney Stapleton as Steph and Matthew Woodyatt as Dai, with further casting to follow.
Beresford, who began researching the story in Wales in 2013 and previously collaborated with Warchus on the 2014 film about the same events, called the transfer an honor, expressing hope it would move "more strangers" to pass tissues and embrace. The production is presented by P&P Productions in association with the National Theatre, Pathé, Calamity Films and David Binder Productions.
