London Assembly Scrutinises Policing Performance and TfL Budget at City Hall

The London Assembly's Budget and Performance Committee met on 20 October to question experts on whether Mayor Khan's policing investment is delivering measurable results and whether TfL can sustain its finances as travel patterns shift.

The London Assembly's Budget and Performance Committee held a public scrutiny session on Tuesday 20 October 2026 at 10am in the Chamber at City Hall on the South Bank. The meeting focused on two main themes: whether policing performance in London is genuinely improving, and whether Transport for London's budget remains financially sustainable as travel habits continue to evolve in the post-pandemic era. The committee heard evidence from policing, transport and financial experts on how police performance should be benchmarked and how TfL should manage its budget under a range of demand and revenue scenarios. The session forms part of the London Assembly's annual budget scrutiny process, which feeds into the Mayor's formal budget proposals for 2027–28. Mayor Khan's most recently approved budget committed a record £1.26 billion from City Hall to policing and crime prevention. A second Assembly committee — the Housing Committee — began a separate investigation on 22 October into whether London's housing stock adequately meets the needs of residents over 65. The Budget and Performance meeting was advertised in the GLA's public weekly 'Coming Up' bulletin for the week of 19 October.
