Guillaume Canet's "Karma" Opens in French Cinemas, Marking His Final Film With Marion Cotillard

French director Guillaume Canet's thriller "Karma," starring Marion Cotillard as a woman whose hidden past resurfaces when a child vanishes in a Spanish village, opens across French cinemas on October 21 in what Canet calls his final collaboration with Cotillard as a couple.

"Karma," a drama-thriller written and directed by Guillaume Canet, opened across French cinemas on October 21, 2026. The film stars Marion Cotillard alongside Denis Ménochet and Leonardo Sbaraglia. Set in a small village on the northern Spanish coast, the story follows Jeanne, who is trying to rebuild her life with her partner Daniel — a man who knows nothing of her troubled past. When her six-year-old godson Mateo mysteriously disappears, the secrets of her history begin to surface. The film runs two hours and twenty minutes. Canet has publicly described "Karma" as both "a true artistic celebration" of Cotillard's talent and the final film the two will make together as a couple, following their long-standing personal and professional partnership. The film opened to a mixed-to-positive critical reception — press rating of 2.9 out of 5 — but a strong audience score of 4.1 out of 5 on AlloCiné. "Karma" was among five major releases in France on the same date, alongside James Watkins' "Clayface" (DC origin story) and "Wicker" starring Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård, making October 21 one of the busiest release dates of the French autumn cinema season.
