Tarantino's Final Film Is Written — But His West End Swashbuckler Goes First

Quentin Tarantino confirmed on 18 October 2026 that the screenplay for his tenth and final film is complete, but production is on hold until his West End stage debut — the swashbuckling farce "The Popinjay Cavalier" starring Sacha Baron Cohen — opens at the Phoenix Theatre in March 2027. He says he wants to "live a little" with his family before committing to the camera.

Quentin Tarantino revealed on 18 October 2026 that he has finished writing the script for what he has long said will be his tenth and final feature film. Speaking on a press appearance, Tarantino stated plainly: "I've written a script that I really like." However, he made clear he has no immediate plans to direct it. Before any filmmaking can begin, Tarantino intends to see through his West End theatrical debut: "The Popinjay Cavalier," a British-style stage farce he describes as being in the tradition of Michael Frayn's "Noises Off." The play, originally conceived as a feature film screenplay, stars Sacha Baron Cohen as the swashbuckling lead and is set to preview at the Phoenix Theatre in London from 23 February 2027, with an official opening on 18 March 2027. After the play closes, Tarantino says he plans to take time at home with his family before deciding what comes next: "I want to do the play and see who I am, then I'll go back and spend time with my family and live a little and then see what I want to do." The story, cast and release date of the final film remain undisclosed. Tarantino, who moved to Israel with his family and has spent much of recent years away from Hollywood, last directed "Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood" in 2019.
