Netflix drops Swedish storm-trapped dark comedy 'The Storm'
Netflix releases 'The Storm', a Swedish dark comedy in which a 45th-birthday dinner at a farm estate collapses into meltdown as a ferocious storm traps old friends together.
Netflix launched the Swedish-language dark comedy 'The Storm' worldwide on 15 October 2026. Directed and co-written by Josephine Bornebusch, who also stars, the film strands eight old friends at the lavish Skåne farm estate of birthday boy Filip, played by Gustaf Skarsgård, as a ferocious autumn storm closes in. Trapped by rising wind, loose power lines and a flooded road, the group's polished facades disintegrate over champagne, roast game and candlelit confessionals. The cast includes Gizem Erdoğan, Filip Berg, Sara Shirpey, Nils Wetterholm, Aliette Opheim and Johan Rheborg. The film is Netflix's largest Swedish-language original of the autumn and premiered at Zurich Film Festival in late September to warm notices for its brittle performances and single-location staging. It is being released simultaneously in 190 countries with dubs and subtitles in 32 languages. Scandinavian critics have compared its claustrophobic set-up to Thomas Vinterberg's 'Festen', with lighter, more satirical tones.
