Netflix Releases Three-Part Matthew Perry Docuseries
"The One About Matthew Perry," a three-part docuseries about the life and career of the "Friends" star, premiered on Netflix on October 27, with Perry's sister Mia Perry Bowick serving as a central voice in the project.
"The One About Matthew Perry" is a three-part docuseries that debuted on Netflix on October 27. Directed by Mary Robertson — known for directing "Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV" and producing "Framing Britney Spears" — the series traces Perry's arc from rising comedic star to the beloved cultural figure the world came to know as Chandler Bing, while also exploring candid details of his private struggles and the legacy of honesty and addiction advocacy he leaves behind.
Perry's sister, Mia Perry Bowick, is the central voice of the series, which also draws on unreleased photographs and videos from the Perry family archive, along with contributions from some of Perry's lifelong best friends and creative collaborators. Robertson directs and executive produces through her Maxine Productions banner at Sony Pictures Television. Lisa Kalikow, Eli Holzman, and Aaron Saidman also serve as executive producers, with Lora Moftah as co-executive producer and Jessica Call as producer.
In a statement, Perry Bowick said she hoped the series would give everyone who loved her brother — "whether personally or from afar" — a deeper appreciation for who he truly was. Robertson described Perry as "one of the comedic geniuses of our time," adding that he gave audiences more than laughter by speaking openly about addiction, and that the series aims to reveal the full person behind the public figure.
