Amazon Prime Video Streams First Fully AI-Made Series
Prime Video has become the first major global streamer to release a fully AI-generated scripted drama, the Turkish melodrama "Castle Walls," marking a significant shift in how mainstream entertainment is produced and distributed.
"Castle Walls," a two-episode melodrama from Turkish production company Ay Yapım, has become the first predominantly AI-generated scripted series distributed by a major global streaming platform. Amazon Prime Video released the show worldwide, placing it alongside its conventional series and films. AI handled much of the visual production work throughout. Amazon also acquired an AI-generated spin-off film based on Ay Yapım's hit crime series Çukur, further cementing its commitment to the format.
The move signals a clear break from Hollywood's earlier arrangement with AI, in which the technology could assist behind the scenes — cleaning up shots, generating backgrounds or easing post-production workloads — but was never meant to be the finished product itself. Unresolved questions remain about whose work trained the underlying models, who owns an actor's face or voice, and whether executive talk of "efficiency" points to widespread job losses.
Industry analysts now identify three emerging pathways: the front-door approach, where AI moves from a production tool to the main attraction, as Amazon has done; the back-door route, where AI quietly reshapes workflows out of public view, as Ben Affleck's company and Netflix are pursuing; and an AI-enabled financing model, illustrated by Antonio Banderas' planned epic Cortés, which is betting that AI can make a high-budget-looking film affordable to produce.
