American Express Posts Record Q3 Revenue of $20 Billion and Raises Full-Year Guidance
American Express reported record third-quarter revenue of $20 billion on October 23, up 9% year on year, and lifted its full-year earnings-per-share forecast, driven by record card-member spending and rising card fees.
American Express delivered a record-setting third-quarter performance on October 23, 2026, posting total revenues of $20 billion, a 9% increase compared with the same quarter of the previous year. Net income rose to $3.7 billion, up from $2.9 billion a year earlier. Earnings per share on a reported basis came in at $5.42, a 31% jump from $4.14 a year ago; on an adjusted basis, EPS was $4.68. The results were driven primarily by higher card-member spending, growth in net interest income supported by expanding card balances, and strong card-fee growth. Following the strong quarter, the company raised its full-year 2026 reported EPS guidance to a range of $18.30 to $18.60, and set adjusted EPS guidance at $17.60 to $17.90, while reaffirming its expectation of 10% full-year revenue growth. Despite the positive results, shares slipped slightly after the release, as some investors had priced in an even stronger beat. The results came during a broader earnings season in which the S&P 500 is tracking Q3 profit growth of 29%, marking the third consecutive quarter above 25% growth according to FactSet.
