Doctors Protest at World Medical Association Summit to Suspend Israeli Association
Hundreds of doctors protested outside the World Medical Association summit in the Netherlands, demanding the Israeli Medical Association be suspended for its silence over the destruction of Palestinian healthcare.
On 10 October 2026 hundreds of physicians from around the world gathered outside the World Medical Association (WMA) general assembly in the Netherlands, calling on the global body to suspend the Israeli Medical Association. Organisers, including Doctors in Palestine Solidarity, accused the Israeli association of staying silent as hospitals, clinics and medical workers in Gaza were killed, detained or displaced during three years of war. Protesters wore white coats and held stethoscopes aloft as they handed over a petition signed by more than 2,000 doctors from 60 countries. The demonstration coincided with a day of reflection on the Gaza ceasefire that took effect on 10 October 2025: a year on, Al Jazeera reported that no hospital in Gaza is operating at full capacity, 51% of essential medicines are at zero stock, and more than 18,500 injured or chronically ill patients still need medical evacuation. Rights groups say more than 1,470 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire began. The WMA was expected to debate the motion in closed session, with its leadership stressing the organisation's humanitarian code of conduct for members.
