Bayeux Tapestry Draws Record Crowds to the British Museum — All 2026 Tickets Sold Out

The 70-metre, nearly 1,000-year-old Bayeux Tapestry, on loan from Normandy and displayed in the UK for the first time since it was made, has sold out every ticket for the remainder of 2026 at the British Museum, where it will remain until July 2027.

The Bayeux Tapestry — a 70-metre embroidered chronicle of the 1066 Norman Conquest, created in the 1070s and unseen outside Normandy for almost a thousand years — has been on display at the British Museum since 10 September 2026, the first time the artefact has been in the United Kingdom since it was made. The exhibition runs until 11 July 2027. Unlike its usual home in Bayeux, where it is arranged in a U-shape, the tapestry here hangs in a single straight line so visitors walk the full length from end to end. Demand has been extraordinary: the first ticket release sold out within a day of going on sale on 1 July 2026, and a second batch covering 1 January to 31 March 2027 went on public sale on 21 October 2026 and sold out just as quickly. Both the September–December 2026 and January–March 2027 windows are now fully booked. A third and final release, covering April to July 2027, is expected to open to the public in early 2027, with Members able to book from January 2027. Adult tickets are priced on a tiered system: £33 for standard slots, £27 for off-peak, and £25 for super off-peak term-time weekday afternoons. The British Museum advises booking directly at britishmuseum.org, as no third-party seller will have allocations.
