Berlin Retailers Expect 25 Million Euro Halloween Windfall
Berlin traders anticipate 25 million euros in extra Halloween spending driven by sweets, costumes, and decorations, roughly matching last year despite broader consumer caution.
Halloween spending in Berlin is expected to generate 25 million euros in additional retail revenue in 2026, with the wider Berlin-Brandenburg region set for 40 million euros in total, according to the trade association. Sweets lead the category: 51.2 percent of surveyed consumers plan to buy candy, with chocolate products alone reaching 16.4 million euros in national Halloween sales in 2025, a 37 percent rise, while non-chocolate confectionery added a further 20.9 million euros nationally. Despite general economic caution, the trade association says the Halloween market remains stable and will move at roughly last year's level. Nationally, German retailers expect 537 million euros in extra Halloween spending, a 3.3 percent increase, though the share of consumers making special Halloween purchases has edged down slightly. Since 2019, nationwide Halloween sales have surged roughly 69 percent. The three product pillars are confections, costumes, and decorative items.
