Russian Drone Strike Kills 14 at Dnipro Train Station

A Russian jet-powered drone struck a busy railway platform in Dnipro on the morning of October 29, killing at least 14 people and wounding at least 14 more. Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze called the attack "mass murder," while President Zelenskyy described it as "horrific."

On the morning of October 29, a Russian jet-powered drone struck a platform at Dnipro railway station, killing at least 14 people and wounding at least 14 more, Ukrainian authorities said. Ukraine's Air Force reported that four jet-powered drones targeted the city around 11:00 a.m.; three were shot down by air defences, but one broke through and hit the platform. A passenger train bound for Zaporizhzhia had been preparing to depart when the attack occurred. Station and train staff had been evacuating passengers from the stationary carriages roughly ten minutes before the strike, checking each car individually.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the attack "horrific," while Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze labelled it "mass murder" and said Russia's actions showed no readiness for peace. French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the strikes as "intolerable," warning that targeting civilians was incompatible with any genuine peace process.

The Dnipro attack was part of a broader wave of daytime strikes across Ukraine. In Chernihiv, Banderol cruise missiles hit the city centre, killing two 15-year-old girls and injuring at least 25 others, including four children. In Kremenchuk, Russian drones struck a residential apartment building, killing at least three people and injuring 32, including six children; October 30 was declared a day of mourning in Poltava Oblast.

After the Dnipro strike, 25,000 residents in the city and surrounding oblast were left without electricity. Later in the day, a Russian drone also hit the dormitory of a vocational school in Dnipro, setting the entire fifth floor on fire, though all students had reached shelter in time and no injuries were reported.
