Israel Votes in First Election Since Start of Gaza War
Millions of Israelis are casting ballots in what is widely described as the most consequential election in the country's history, the first general vote since the October 2023 start of the war against Palestinians in Gaza.
Voters across Israel headed to the polls to elect all 120 members of the Knesset in what has been widely billed as the most consequential election in the country's history. The vote is the first general election held since the October 2023 start of Israel's war against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party and its far-right coalition partners are facing off against an opposition bloc that includes the Yashar party, led by former army chief Gadi Eisenkot.
Millions of voters are participating in the poll, which arrives as the conflict in Gaza continues to weigh heavily on Israeli politics. The result will determine the composition of the 120-seat parliament and decide which bloc is positioned to attempt to form a government in the period ahead.
