'The One About Matthew Perry' Premieres on Netflix

Netflix has released its three-part documentary series about the life and career of Friends star Matthew Perry, featuring never-before-seen family footage and reflections from his sister and close friends.

Netflix launched 'The One About Matthew Perry' on October 27, offering the first in-depth documentary look at the life of the beloved actor. The three-part series was directed by Emmy winner Mary Robertson and draws on contributions from Perry's close friends, family and collaborators. Among those featured is his sister Mia Perry Bowick, who shares personal memories alongside Perry's lifelong best friends. The series also includes previously unreleased photographs and home videos from the Perry family's private archive.

Perry won over audiences for a decade as the sarcastic, quick-witted Chandler Bing on NBC's hit sitcom Friends, and the documentary traces his journey from rising comedic talent to iconic television star. It also explores his long private battle with addiction — his sister reveals in the trailer that he spent more than $7 million in attempts to get sober — as well as the impact he had on others who were similarly struggling. Perry died from an accidental overdose in October 2023 at the age of 54.

In a statement, Bowick said it had taken time for her to feel ready to share her memories of her brother. She described him as having "a beautiful heart and a generous spirit," adding that even in his darkest moments he could still make people laugh and feel loved. She expressed hope that the series would give viewers "a deeper appreciation for who he truly was, and the legacy he leaves behind."
