Tampa Bay Rays Advance to World Series, Will Face Milwaukee Brewers

The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Cleveland Guardians 7-3 in ALCS Game 6 on Monday night, booking a World Series place against the Milwaukee Brewers in a first-championship final for both franchises.

The Tampa Bay Rays clinched the 2026 American League Championship Series on Monday, October 19, defeating the Cleveland Guardians 7-3 in Game 6 at Progressive Field to advance to the World Series for the third time in franchise history. Pitcher Freddy Peralta, acquired from the New York Mets before the trade deadline, was named ALCS MVP after posting a 0.75 ERA across 12 innings in the series and finishing 2-0. The Rays seized control early: Richie Palacios hit a two-run double in the second inning and Jonny DeLuca added a sacrifice fly in the third to build a 3-0 lead. When Cleveland cut the gap in the sixth, Junior Caminero silenced the crowd with a two-run home run in the seventh. Yandy Díaz then sealed the 7-3 victory with another two-run blast in the eighth. Tampa Bay accomplished the feat with the third-lowest payroll in baseball, having earlier swept the New York Yankees in the divisional round. They will face the NL champion Milwaukee Brewers starting Friday — a historic match-up in which neither franchise has ever won a World Series title, the first such pairing since 1980. The Brewers finished the regular season with an MLB-best 103 wins to the Rays' 98. Cleveland's championship drought now extends to 78 years.
