India's 14th International Tourism Mart Opens in Tawang, Showcasing Northeast to 43 Global Buyers
India's Ministry of Tourism inaugurated the 14th International Tourism Mart in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh on 30 October, bringing 43 international buyers from 22 countries to promote the northeast's eight states.
The 14th International Tourism Mart (ITM) for India's North Eastern Region opened on 30 October 2026 in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh — the event's first return to the remote Buddhist monastery town in 13 years, having last been held there at the 2nd edition in 2013. The three-day event (29–31 October) is organised by India's Ministry of Tourism in partnership with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and representatives from all eight northeastern states: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura. Forty-three international buyers from 22 countries attended, taking part in structured B2B sessions with domestic tourism service providers. On 30 October, a Regional Meeting of Tourism Ministers of the North Eastern States was chaired by Union Minister GS Shekhawat. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu highlighted that tourist footfall to the region has grown tenfold since the first ITM was held in Guwahati in 2013, rising from 1 lakh (100,000) to 10 lakh (1 million) visitors. The mart is designed to connect hidden gems of the northeast with global travel networks and raise awareness of the region's biodiversity, indigenous cultures, and Buddhist heritage.
