Mother of fallen Queens soldier says 'my daughter is just a number'
The mother of Staff Sgt. Angel Sarah Rampersad, a Queens soldier killed in July in an Iranian attack in Jordan, speaks out about Army handling and reclassification of her daughter's death.
Carol Acevedo, the mother of Staff Sgt. Angel Sarah Rampersad, spoke publicly for the first time about her 28-year-old daughter's death during an Iranian strike on a U.S. base in Jordan in July. Rampersad, born in Trinidad and raised in Ozone Park, Queens, was initially counted among the casualties of the Iran conflict, but Acevedo says the Pentagon later reclassified her death as part of 'overseas operations' once Operation Epic Fury concluded. 'My daughter is just a number,' Acevedo told CBS New York, saying the Army offered her little support beyond paperwork. She remembered her daughter as loving, kind and funny, and said they used to FaceTime every Sunday. The exclusive interview ran on CBS New York on October 17 and was one of the most-watched items on the station's local page.
