'Jailer 2' Crosses ₹300 Crore in India as Rajinikanth Sequel Storms Global Box Office
Rajinikanth's Tamil-language action sequel Jailer 2 entered India's ₹300 crore club within its first week of release and ranked second at the global box office in its opening weekend, cementing the superstar's enduring box-office dominance.
Rajinikanth's Tamil-language action comedy Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, continued its record-breaking run at the box office around October 20–21, 2026, entering India's coveted ₹300 crore domestic gross club — surpassing the original Jailer's Day 6 net collection — within its first week of release. The film opened in Indian cinemas on October 15 and grossed an estimated INR 224 crore (approximately USD 23.5 million) across its four-day extended opening weekend. Globally, it ranked second at the worldwide box office in its opening frame, taking in USD 31.2 million and finishing behind only Paramount's Street Fighter. In North America alone it debuted at No. 9 with USD 3.2 million, rising to a North American total of USD 5.2 million. The sequel continues the franchise's story of a retired jailer navigating a criminal underworld, and benefits from the enduring cult status and mass-market appeal of the 73-year-old Tamil cinema icon Rajinikanth. According to Variety, the film's performance further establishes Indian cinema's growing footprint in global box-office rankings, particularly in diaspora markets across the US, UK, and Australia.
