Donald Glover to Write, Direct and Star in Netflix's Live-Action PUBG Series

Netflix is developing a live-action series adaptation of Krafton's battle-royale game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), with Donald Glover set to write, direct, executive-produce and star in the show alongside his brother Stephen Glover.

Netflix is developing a live-action series adaptation of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), the hugely popular battle-royale video game published by South Korean company Krafton. The project came together after lengthy negotiations, with Netflix bringing Donald Glover on board to write, direct, executive-produce and star in the series. His brother and long-time collaborator Stephen Glover will co-write and co-executive-produce. Additional executive producers include Michael Schaefer for Neon TV, Fam Udeorji for Gilga, and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee for Krafton's entertainment entity LV3H.

Glover is best known as the creator, star and director of FX's Atlanta, for which he won two Emmy Awards — one for acting and one for directing. Since its 2017 debut, PUBG has set seven Guinness World Records. Krafton first announced plans for a PUBG movie and TV series back in 2020, and a separate animated adaptation from Castlevania executive producer Adi Shankar was previously in development at Netflix before this project took shape.

The series joins a growing slate of video game adaptations Netflix has in the works, including a live-action Assassin's Creed series, a live-action Gears of War film, and animated series based on Minecraft, Magic: The Gathering and Clash of Clans, as well as an Overcooked competition series.
