DeepSeek Open-Sources Super-Agent, a Proactive Coding AI That Watches Developer Chats

Chinese AI lab DeepSeek released Super-Agent as an open-source research prototype on November 1 — a coding agent that monitors team group chats and GitHub repositories to spot problems and suggest fixes without being prompted.

DeepSeek, the Shanghai-based AI lab that has rapidly expanded its AI agent ambitions, published Super-Agent on November 1, 2026, under the MIT licence as an open-source research prototype. Unlike conventional coding assistants that respond when called, Super-Agent watches a development team's group chats and GitHub repository continuously, identifies coding issues as they are discussed, and proposes solutions without waiting to be summoned. DeepSeek described the agent's goal in its user manual as taking 'as little human attention as possible, and give as much value as possible.' The release is positioned as a direct challenge to Anthropic's Claude Code and other agentic coding tools from US companies. Super-Agent was built by DeepSeek's Harness team, an internal unit established earlier in 2026 specifically to develop autonomous AI agents. At launch it is a blueprint developers can study, test and extend rather than a production-ready service. The code is available on GitHub under the MIT licence, allowing free commercial use and modification. The release received immediate attention from the developer community and tech press, with observers noting it extends DeepSeek's strategy of releasing capable open-weight models that undercut commercial rivals.
