New York Road Runners held TCS NYC Marathon Kids Kickoff events across all five boroughs for the first time, with nearly 5,000 youth athletes participating in the lead-up to the 50th-anniversary edition of the marathon on November 1.
New York Road Runners kicked off marathon week on October 25, 2026, by hosting TCS NYC Marathon Kids Kickoff events in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island — the first time the programme has expanded to all five boroughs simultaneously. Approximately 2,000 children took part across four locations over the two-day event on Saturday and Sunday, with another 3,000 expected to join Central Park festivities on Sunday, bringing total youth participation to nearly 5,000 athletes ranging in age from two to eighteen. The events are part of a yearlong celebration marking the 50th anniversary of the original five-borough marathon course. The main TCS NYC Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, November 1, with 60,000 registered competitors. Broadcast coverage begins at 7:00 a.m. on ABC7/Channel 7 and ESPN2. The Kids Kickoff is the traditional launch of marathon week in New York City, generating public excitement before one of the world's most iconic road races.
