El Tráfico: LAFC vs LA Galaxy Battle for MLS Playoff Spot in Sunday Night Derby

LAFC host LA Galaxy in the high-stakes El Tráfico derby at BMO Stadium with MLS playoff qualification on the line for both Los Angeles clubs, live on Apple TV's Sunday Night Soccer.

El Tráfico returns to BMO Stadium on Sunday evening as LAFC welcome arch-rivals LA Galaxy in a pivotal Matchday 32 clash, broadcast live on Apple TV's Sunday Night Soccer. Both Los Angeles clubs have significant playoff stakes heading into the fixture.

LAFC sit sixth in the Western Conference on 46 points and can clinch an Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs spot this weekend. The Black & Gold are also chasing a top-four finish in the West, which would secure home-field advantage at least through the first round. This will be their fourth match under interim head coach Xavi Tamarit following the club's split with Marc Dos Santos. LAFC's last outing was a 1-1 draw at New York City FC, and they already hold an edge in the season series after a 3-0 road victory over the Galaxy in mid-July.

The Galaxy enter eighth in the Western Conference on 40 points and currently occupy a Wild Card position. With just three regular-season games remaining, head coach Greg Vanney's side has little margin for error in securing a playoff berth. Should the Galaxy advance as the Wild Card team, they would face the Western Conference's top seed — currently Vancouver Whitecaps FC — in a Round One Best-of-3 Series. Their last result was a 2-2 draw with San Diego FC.

Both squads carry genuine attacking threats. LAFC's Denis Bouanga has recorded 17 goals and nine assists, while Son Heung-Min adds seven goals and 15 assists. For LA, Marco Reus leads with 20 goal contributions (8g/12a) and João Klauss brings nine goals and strong recent form. Kickoff is at 9 pm ET / 6 pm PT.
