Jewish Man Stabbed in Manhattan's Diamond District in Suspected Hate Crime
Police are seeking a woman caught on video allegedly following and stabbing a Jewish man in the back on West 47th Street; a second man may also have been targeted in the same incident.
New York City police are investigating a suspected hate crime after a woman was captured on surveillance video following a Jewish man along West 47th Street in Manhattan's Diamond District, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, on Wednesday, October 22, just before 6 p.m. The woman allegedly jabbed him in the back with an unknown object. The victim was wearing traditional Jewish attire including a yarmulke and was taken to Bellevue Hospital for evaluation. Witnesses told PIX11 that the same woman may have jabbed a second man moments later. The NYPD is treating the incident as a possible bias crime. The Manhattan Shomrim Safety Patrol issued a wanted flyer seeking public assistance in identifying the suspect. The attack came amid heightened concern about hate crimes in New York City, which have continued to rise even as overall crime rates have fallen in 2026.
