Davidovich Fokina Wins Historic Shanghai Masters Title in First-Ever All-Spanish Final

Spain's Alejandro Davidovich Fokina claimed his biggest career title at the 2026 Rolex Shanghai Masters, defeating fellow Spaniard Rafael Jódar in the first-ever all-Spanish Masters 1000 final on a hard court — and the first time Spain has ever won this prestigious ATP event in China.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain lifted the 2026 Rolex Shanghai Masters trophy at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena, defeating 20-year-old compatriot Rafael Jódar in a landmark all-Spanish final. It was a historic result on multiple fronts: Spain had never before won the Shanghai Masters despite previous finalists including Rafael Nadal (twice), David Ferrer, and Roberto Bautista Agut, and this was the first all-Spanish Masters 1000 final played on a hard court. The 27-year-old Davidovich Fokina arrived in Shanghai in blistering form, extending a run of nine consecutive wins on Chinese soil that included the Chengdu Open title the previous week. In the Saturday semifinals, he overcame world number one Alexander Zverev 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in one of the tournament's defining matches, firing 36 winners across two hours and two minutes. His opponent Jódar, a 20-year-old described as a future top-ten player, had himself impressed by eliminating world number three Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 6-4 in the other semi. The final provided an emotional conclusion to the tournament, with Spain guaranteeing a first-ever Shanghai champion regardless of the outcome. In the doubles event, Austrian pair Lucas Miedler and Neil Oberleitner claimed the title, defeating Francisco Cabral and JJ Tracy.
