Diwali on the Square Cancelled at Trafalgar Square Due to Forecast Storms
London's free annual Diwali on the Square festival at Trafalgar Square, planned for 25 October, was called off the day before after safety experts warned that storms forecast for Saturday made set-up dangerous.
On 24 October 2026, the day before the event was due to take place, the Mayor of London's office cancelled Diwali on the Square at Trafalgar Square. Independent event health and safety experts advised that storms forecast for Saturday meant it would not be safe to carry out the build and set-up required to stage the outdoor festival on Sunday. The Mayor's office stated that the safety of Londoners and visitors had to come first, and expressed deep regret to those who had planned to attend and to the volunteers who had put so much time and care into preparing for the event. The annual celebration typically features live music, dance performances, food stalls and a light ceremony marking the Hindu, Sikh and Jain festival of Diwali. Organisers said they were now considering other ways to support people in celebrating Diwali in London in 2026.
