Anthropic Expands GSA Deal to Bring 40% Claude Discount Across All Levels of US Government
Anthropic announced on 27 October an expanded General Services Administration agreement extending a 40 percent discount on all Claude products to federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial governments, with estimated savings of $1 billion.
Anthropic announced on 27 October 2026 an expansion of its General Services Administration partnership, making discounted access to its Claude AI models available across every level of US government. For the first time, the 40 percent discount covers all Claude product surfaces — Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government, and the Claude API — and applies to both direct purchases today and sales through cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud in the coming months. The benefit extends beyond the federal government to state, local, tribal, and territorial governments. Approximately 500 US federal, state, and local government organisations currently use Claude. Weekly active users of Claude for Government have grown roughly eightfold since February 2026, and federal civilian agency usage has increased approximately 20-fold over the past year. Anthropic estimates the discounted pricing will save the government a combined $1 billion, with no minimum spending commitment — agencies pay only for actual consumption. Claude for Government reached general availability on 30 September 2026 at a FedRAMP High authorisation level. It is also available through Amazon Bedrock, where select models carry DoD IL4 and IL5 authorisation in AWS GovCloud, and through Google Cloud's Vertex AI, both at FedRAMP High. Anthropic is also launching a dedicated programme to help agencies implement Claude, drawing on best practices from its private-sector deployments.
