A24's Elden Ring Film Heads to AFM with a Budget Near $200 Million

A24's live-action adaptation of the video game Elden Ring is heading to the American Film Market (AFM), which kicks off November 10, as a notably rare and expensive tentpole for the marketplace — sources peg the budget at between $175 million and $200 million, closer to the higher figure. A24 financed the film independently and is still seeking at least one additional studio partner. Amazon MGM Studios has already moved to secure a large chunk of the pay-one international streaming rights in a deal said to be worth tens of millions of dollars, which means other potential buyers will not have access to the full rights package. Directed by Alex Garland, the dark fantasy film features a wide-ranging cast: Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, Ruby Cruz, and Nick Offerman. Industrial Light & Magic is handling visual effects, and Garland is reuniting with his Warfare cinematographer David J. Thompson. The Elden Ring game had notable creative input from Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin, who helped shape the lore of its universe. A theatrical release is currently targeted for 2028, with no footage or teaser trailer expected anytime soon.
