Avolon orders 250 jets as Boeing and Airbus share mega-deal
Chinese-owned lessor Avolon placed firm orders for 140 Boeing 737 MAX, 75 Airbus A320neo-family and 35 A330neo aircraft, with options on 100 more.
Aircraft leasing giant Avolon's 250-plane order dominated aerospace coverage into 10 October 2026. The Dublin-based firm, 70% owned by China's Bohai Leasing, placed firm orders for 140 Boeing 737 MAX narrowbodies, 75 Airbus A320neo-family jets and 35 Airbus A330neo widebodies, plus options on another 100 aircraft, taking its firm commitments to 749 jets. Bloomberg, Aviation Week and Air Data News reported that Avolon did not specify the exact 737 MAX variants or delivery schedule, and the deal remains subject to Bohai Leasing shareholder approval before the end of October. For Boeing, still down roughly 12% year to date in 2026, the win is a boost to its narrowbody backlog, while Airbus consolidates its position in both the A320neo and the growing A330neo segment. Analysts said the split showed lessors continuing to hedge between the two planemakers after years of supply-chain strain and underscored resilient airline demand despite higher fuel prices and economic uncertainty. The order came the day before Boeing-watchers braced for third-quarter earnings season.
