OpenAI tells investors it is heading for seventy billion dollars in revenue
OpenAI has told investors it expects to end 2026 at about seventy billion dollars in annualised revenue, up from roughly fifty billion in September, as it raises fresh funds.
Yahoo Finance, Reuters and Whatfinger reported in the run-up to 10 October 2026 that ChatGPT-maker OpenAI had told investors it expected to reach or exceed seventy billion US dollars in annualised revenue by the end of 2026, up from roughly fifty billion dollars at the end of September. The figures were shared as the company negotiated a new fundraising round of at least thirty billion dollars at a pre-money valuation of around 1.4 trillion dollars, which would rank it among the most valuable private firms ever. Analysts tied the surge to accelerating paid use of ChatGPT, enterprise agents and API services, as business spending on large language models stayed split roughly evenly between OpenAI and rival Anthropic in September, down from Anthropic's share of more than seventy-five per cent in January. The news fuelled further gains in AI-exposed stocks and sharpened debate over the sector's capital needs: Morgan Stanley estimated AI infrastructure could require around 1.5 trillion dollars in external financing by 2028, as SpaceX, Broadcom and Oracle leaned on debt markets to fund data-centre build-outs.
