Soho's Golden Union Fish Bar in the running for UK Fish and Chip Restaurant of the Year
The Soho chippy was named one of the top 10 contenders for the National Fish and Chip Awards' 2027 Fish and Chip Restaurant of the Year title.
Golden Union Fish Bar on Poland Street in Soho has been shortlisted among the top 10 contenders for the National Fish and Chip Awards' Fish and Chip Restaurant of the Year 2027 title, Time Out London reported in its food section in the days before 18 October 2026. The Soho stalwart, which opened in 2008, is the only central-London entrant on the shortlist and competes with regional chippies from across the UK. The list praises Golden Union for its sustainably sourced haddock and cod, triple-cooked chips and old-school tiled dining room, as well as a late-night trade that pulls in theatre crowds leaving nearby West End shows. Owner Elliot Simmonds said the nomination recognised 15 years of consistent effort by the team. Time Out London's coverage was among the week's most-read food pieces on the site and drew diners to the restaurant during the busy BFI London Film Festival weekend. The overall winner will be announced at the National Fish and Chip Awards in early 2027.
