London bus and tram fares to rise 10p to £1.85 from 1 November
TfL confirmed a 5.7% increase in bus and tram fares from the start of November, the first rise in three years, after the Mayor extended his fare freeze from July.
Transport for London confirmed on 16 October 2026 that single bus and tram fares, including the Hopper fare, will rise by 10p from £1.75 to £1.85 on 1 November, a 5.7% increase and the first rise since 2023. The daily bus and tram cap goes up by 30p to £5.55, and fares for eligible concession card holders rise by 5p. Tube, rail caps and Travelcards remain unchanged until the next round of fare changes in March 2027. Mayor Sadiq Khan had already extended the previous bus and tram fare freeze from July to November, framing it as an emergency cost-of-living measure for lower-income Londoners, but TfL said rising operating costs made a further freeze unaffordable. Time Out London and Londonist both covered the change prominently, and Croydon-focused outlet Inside Croydon noted that bus-reliant outer-London boroughs would feel the increase most. The rise was heavily discussed on London radio and in commuter social-media feeds through the weekend before taking effect on Sunday 1 November.
