FBI Raids Multiple NYC Adult Day Care Centres in Medicaid Fraud Sweep
Federal agents from the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations raided several adult day care centres across Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island on Tuesday, targeting an alleged scheme involving overbilling, inflated client counts, and kickbacks against Medicaid.
Agents from the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, and other federal agencies fanned out across New York City on Tuesday, conducting enforcement operations at multiple social adult day care centres suspected of defrauding Medicaid. One prominent target was the Happy Adult Day Care Center on Fort Hamilton Parkway in Borough Park, Brooklyn, where investigators were seen removing boxes of documents. Authorities allege the centres engaged in a scheme including overbilling Medicaid for services not rendered, grossly inflating the number of clients served, and paying or receiving kickbacks. Social adult day cares serve elderly and disabled New Yorkers and are reimbursed by Medicaid at daily rates. The investigation spanned centres in Queens and Staten Island in addition to Brooklyn locations. No immediate charges were publicly announced on the day of the raids, but federal prosecutors were expected to detail allegations in forthcoming court filings. The sweep was part of a broader federal effort targeting Medicaid fraud in the New York metropolitan area.
