Diwali on the Square returns to Trafalgar Square on 25 October
The Mayor of London confirmed the free annual Festival of Lights celebration will fill Trafalgar Square with 200 dancers, puppet theatre and vegetarian food on Sunday 25 October.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan confirmed that Diwali on the Square will return to Trafalgar Square from 1pm to 7pm on Sunday 25 October 2026, with coverage running through the weekend of 17-18 October as pre-event listings. The free, family-friendly festival opens with a 200-dancer colour sequence in the centre of the square and includes classical and contemporary music, arts and crafts, storytelling, yoga, meditation, dance workshops and vegan and vegetarian food stalls. StoryHour UK is bringing a Ramayana Puppet Show with handcrafted puppets, and this year's theme — 'Preserving the flame, illuminating tomorrow' — focuses on youth empowerment. Remitly is the headline partner, with Lidl and Jio Hotstar as associate partners and the volunteer-led Diwali in London committee delivering the event. The Mayor called the celebration 'a highlight in our cultural calendar and a wonderful way to celebrate the contribution London's Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities make to our city'. Trafalgar Square has hosted the free festival since 2001.
