City of London Hosts Japan Day to Deepen UK–Japan Financial Ties

The City of London Corporation and the Japanese Embassy co-hosted Japan Day on 26 October, bringing government and financial leaders together at Mansion House and Nomura to strengthen investment and sustainable finance links.

On 26 October 2026, the City of London Corporation and the Embassy of Japan held Japan Day as the centrepiece of Japan Weeks 2026 (26–30 October), bringing together UK and Japanese government ministers, financial services executives and business leaders. The day included a Japan–UK Financial Seminar at Nomura International and a networking reception at Mansion House, the official residence of the Lord Mayor of the City of London. Key participants included Dame Susan Langley DBE, the Lady Mayor of the City of London; Hiroshi Suzuki, the Japanese Ambassador to the UK; Lucy Rigby KC MP, Economic Secretary to the Treasury; and senior figures from Mizuho Financial Group, Deloitte, Nomura Asset Management UK and Legal & General. Discussions focused on private capital mobilisation, asset management, transition finance, financial innovation and natural disaster risk management. A Tokyo–London Sustainable Finance Seminar on 27 October, co-hosted with Tokyo Metropolitan Government, extended the programme. The events build on a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of London Corporation and Tokyo Metropolitan Government, revised in September 2025, and on the Lady Mayor's Tokyo visit in June 2026.
