Diwali on Trafalgar Square 2026 Cancelled Over Storm Safety Concerns
The Diwali in London (DiL) Committee has cancelled Diwali on Trafalgar Square, which had been scheduled for Sunday 25 October 2026, citing expert safety advice linked to forecast storms that threatened preparations at the site.
The annual Diwali on Trafalgar Square celebration has been cancelled after the Diwali in London (DiL) Committee determined it could not go ahead safely. The event had been scheduled for Sunday 25 October 2026. In a statement, the committee said adverse weather forecast for Saturday 24 October was already affecting preparations at Trafalgar Square and posed potential risks to the health and safety of the teams working to prepare the site. The decision was taken in consultation with relevant experts and the Greater London Authority (GLA). The committee expressed particular sadness on behalf of the young performers, participants and volunteers who had devoted so much time, energy and care to preparing for the day. Organisers apologised for the short notice and thanked partners, production teams and the GLA for their work towards the event. Visitors are asked not to travel to Trafalgar Square for the celebration and to help share the cancellation announcement with anyone who had been planning to attend. No alternative date was announced. The event is a Mayor of London initiative, organised in partnership with the DiL Committee.
