'The Notebook' Musical Heading to the West End for Its European Premiere

The musical adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' novel 'The Notebook', which completed a nine-month run on Broadway, will have its European premiere at London's newly renamed Judi Dench Theatre, playing from March to December 2027.

The West End will host the European premiere of The Notebook, the musical adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' 1996 novel, at the Judi Dench Theatre — the newly renamed Shaftesbury Theatre. The production ran on Broadway for approximately nine months and is written by playwright Bekah Brunstetter and singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson, with co-directors Michael Greif, best known for Dear Evan Hansen, and Schele Williams, whose revival of The Wiz has been a major hit. London performances run from 10 March to 11 December 2027, with previews beginning in March. Casting has not yet been announced. The production serves as the inaugural show at the Judi Dench Theatre under its new name. The story, set in 1940s America, follows a young couple separated by class and war, and while it is nominally adapted from the book rather than the film, the Broadway production was particularly noted for recreating the iconic rain sequence in which protagonists Noah and Allie are reunited after the Second World War — a moment fans of the 2004 film starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams will recognise immediately.
