Berlin braces for stormy Sunday with wind gusts up to 85 km/h
The German weather service warned of a wet, blustery Sunday across Berlin and Brandenburg, with heavy showers, thunderstorms and gusts of up to 85 km/h expected.
Berlin and Brandenburg were preparing for a stormy weekend as the German Weather Service (DWD) warned on 10 October 2026 of heavy showers, thunderstorms and strong wind gusts of up to 85 km/h on Sunday. Tagesspiegel and dpa reported temperatures were expected to drop sharply after a mild Saturday, with daytime highs barely reaching the low teens Celsius. Officials urged residents to secure loose garden furniture and to be cautious around trees, particularly in the capital's many parks and allotment areas. Fire brigades in both federal states placed extra crews on standby to deal with fallen branches, flooded underpasses and damaged roofs. Weather authorities also mentioned a risk of localised hail and advised cyclists and motorcyclists to take special care on wet leaves. The autumn storm comes at the start of the Festival of Lights, prompting organisers to warn of possible short-term disruption to outdoor installations if winds strengthen beyond forecast.
