SAG-AFTRA Extends National Executive Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland's Contract and Adds CEO to His Title

SAG-AFTRA's board voted with 98.34% support to add CEO to the title of national executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland and extend his contract four years through June 2032.

SAG-AFTRA's national board voted Saturday to extend the contract of national executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland by four years, now running through June 20, 2032, and to add CEO to his title. The extension was approved with 98.34% of the board in favor. Crabtree-Ireland has spent nearly his entire career at SAG-AFTRA, previously serving as general counsel and chief operating officer before being named national executive director in 2021. He was a central figure in the 2023 actors' strike and has made artificial intelligence a key focus of the union's negotiations, pursuing agreements that aim to let performers benefit from AI while shielding them from unauthorized use of their likenesses. The union said the extension provides "added stability and continuity for the union during a time of unprecedented industry disruption." The deal will carry Crabtree-Ireland through the next round of studio negotiations, with the current agreement set to expire in June 2030. SAG-AFTRA President Sean Astin praised the decision, describing Crabtree-Ireland as "a powerful executive who has led our union at the bargaining table, in the halls of Congress and in boardrooms and conference rooms across the industry and the world." Crabtree-Ireland was paid $1.1 million for the 2026 fiscal year.
