Café Kranzler Transforms Into Sicilian-Style Italian Restaurant
The famed Café Kranzler at Berlin's Ku'damm is reopening as an Italian restaurant styled 'like a Sicilian wedding'.
One of West Berlin's most iconic addresses is changing character: Café Kranzler at the Kurfürstendamm, with its unmistakable round red-and-white striped canopy, is being transformed into an Italian restaurant. Tagesspiegel reported on 14/15 October 2026 that the new operators want to make the historic rotunda feel 'like a Sicilian wedding', with long shared tables, antipasti counters and warm lamp light. Café Kranzler, dating back to 1932 at this spot, is a listed Berlin landmark and in recent decades has gone through several reinventions. The new concept replaces the previous café operation and will serve seasonal Italian menus throughout the day. Fans of the original coffee-and-cake culture have mixed feelings, while the owners say they want to keep the architecture and signature canopy fully intact.
