Amazon Pulls Horror Ad From Breitscheidplatz Christmas Market Site
After public outrage, Amazon removed a dark, horror-themed advertisement installed at Berlin's Breitscheidplatz, the site of the 2016 Christmas-market terror attack.
Amazon has taken down a horror-themed advertising installation that it had put up at Breitscheidplatz in Berlin-Charlottenburg, directly at the memorial site of the 2016 Christmas-market terror attack in which twelve people were killed. The dark, menacing campaign imagery, meant to promote a new streaming title, triggered sharp criticism from victims' relatives, politicians and residents, who called it tasteless and disrespectful of the memorial, which is a quiet place of mourning next to the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche. On 14/15 October 2026 Amazon announced it would remove the installation and apologised for the choice of location. The incident reopened a debate about commercial advertising at sites of terror and mourning in Berlin's city centre, and about which campaigns the Senate should allow near sensitive memorials.
